Book Review: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (Spoiler-Free)

Introduction.

Title: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder

Author: Holly Jackson

What is it about?

Pippa Fitz-Amobi wants to become a journalist and is a student that is not satisfied with the results of the murder case of her friend, Andie Bell. Andie’s poor boyfriend got the blame after committing suicide the night of the murder. So, Pippa decides to re-investigate the case as her final school project. Her cleverness leads her to unsettling new evidence that her friend Andie Bell might not have been killed by her boyfriend, but by some other person that’s now threatening her.

General thoughts

If this isn’t one of the best books I’m reading this year, I don’t know what is. My mind has been blown! I simply love the stories that keep me hooked and don’t let me go. I read this thing in a week, and I could’ve read it sooner but my 9 to 5 is a pain. So, expect a murderous page-turner with this one. It’s clever and well-written.

What did I like?

It makes you feel as if you’re trying to solve the case, side by side with the MC. I couldn’t wait to read this novel after my shift ended. As a mystery and crime fan, this delivered all the Agatha Christie and Alfred Hitchock goodies my crimish heart desired. Something that I expected from the book Sadie, but I’ll keep my comments to myself with that one.

What I didn’t like

Although I try to be as honest as possible. I didn’t find anything that I didn’t like. Technicalities are no match for a story as good as this.

Was it memorable?

Do my last answers give you a hint?

What are people saying about the book?

“GREAT STORYTELLING, ATTENTION TAKER PLOT, FANTASTIC CHARACTERIZATION, FAST AND HEART-THROBBING PACING, AND GREAT-SATISFYING ENDING! What are you waiting for guys? The book is NOT going to fall from the sky and drop on your lap! Go and buy it and send me your thank you letter for my encouraging words!” Nilufer Ozmekik from Goodreads.

“Pippa Fitz-Amobi is a true-crime-loving teen who aspires to become a top-notch journalist one day. So naturally, she decides to focus her senior capstone project on her small town’s most buzzworthy, unsolved crime: the murder of Andie Bell. What begins as a simple proposal quickly turns into an in-depth investigation full of unexpected twists and turns. After teaming up with the alleged murderer’s brother, the pair spiral into a web of danger and obsession, and quickly wonder if they’ve gotten themselves in too deep.”  – Chelsea Humphrey from Goodreads.

My grade as a reader, not a critic: 5/5 stars.

Final thoughts?

Make sure to read it on a weekend. You’ll thank me later.

Thank you so much for reading! Don’t forget that my second novel is available for pre-order on Amazon. If you wish to learn more, click here or if you want to help a passionate independent writer, go straight to the Amazon page, here. I’ll write to you soon my friend!
